Hi my name is Sophia, the artist and founder of VODI Accessories Ltd, a home and office accessories business based in London, UK.

On this page, I have decided that I would dedicate it to answering frequently asked questions I receive from our customers when trading in person. I believe that these questions may also be what you (online) are also asking, so I thought it would be a great idea to share these with you.

Common questions I have been asked

What does VODI mean?

The definition of VODI is the word Beautiful. It is from the Fulani language of the Fulani people, a large African tribe of which I have a personal connection with. When I was in search of a name for my business, I wanted to use as little letters as possible, that was easy to remember, pronounce and I wanted it to look good. VODI, then came to mind, with an English pronunciation of the letter ‘D’…..

Why nature?

I want my art and brand to represent beauty. Nature is unapologetically what it is, and I believe that, that is how we all should be. Nothing in nature is exactly the same, but beautiful in its own way.

Where did you learn how to draw?

The only academic training I received in art was at secondary school. I enrolled and attended Art class in college, and then decided after one lesson that the method of teaching was not for me…. It was being told to make a face out of masking tape that led to the decision. I then forgot about drawing for many years, and of recent (2021) picked it back up again.

What do you use to draw your illustrations?

I draw my illustrations on a tablet using digital pencils and brushes. I chose this method because I have a small home and wanted to avoid clutter and potential mess. I am self-taught and I continue to learn through this journey.

How do you put your illustrations on products?

For our in-house products, we use sublimation, a process that involves the heat transfer of a printed illustration onto various products.
